Sleepy Hallow is a small town in New York State just thirty minutes from New York City, that is associated with the “Legend of Sleepy Hallow” by writer, Washington Irving. Every year during fall and Halloween, the city is decorated with headless horseman statues, pumpkins, and chrysanthemums flowers, along with other cool Halloween costumes and decorations. Read on to find out more about this charming little town.

Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow Farmers Market

The farmers market here is very nice. Taking place from Memorial Day weekend to Thanksgiving. It is open every Saturday from 8:30a.m.-1:30p.m. Enjoy browsing the unique items and drinking hot cocoa.

Explore Downtown Tarrytown

Tarrytown is connected to Sleepy Hollow town because it’s actually all one town, but because of the famous association with the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” they decided to split it into two separate towns.

In Tarrytown you can look at all the different shops and restaurants and cool bookstores. It is really nice.

Tarrytown Lighthouse

The Tarrytown lighthouse, constructed in 1883, is very special because it is used to guide ships on the river.

Phillipsburg Manor

You can walk by Phillipsburg Manor and check out it’s old and dark past. It used to be a trading center with dozens of slaves working there.

Kukuit Rockefeller Estate

If you have a car you can check this place out. It has 40 rooms and was once a Rockefeller mansion.

Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and The Old Dutch Church

When the Halloween season starts, cemetery tours are available day and evening. The cemetery was built in 1849 and houses 47,000 graves. Famous graves are of local writer, Washington Irving, who wrote “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” also there are Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Andrew Carnegie.

There are so many fun things happening at the time of Halloween and these two towns really have a good time decorating their houses with all sorts of fun and unique decorations. With the headless horseman as a big theme every year, you can bet that just strolling through the streets is an amazing experience.
