Tegucigalpa Historic Downtown
To start walk around the city center, taking in the view of the Parque de La Merced. From there you will spot the 17th Century Convent and Honduras’s first university, Iglesia de la Merced, then you will also come across the Catedral de San Miguel Arcángel. There is also the stunning Iglesia Los Dolores, and lots of shops, restaurants, and museums.
Central America’s Patron Saint
The neo-Gothic Basílica de Suyapa, is perhaps the most well-known and most important church in all of Honduras and also in Central America. Dedicated to the virgin de Suyupa, the nation’s patron saint. The church was built in the 1950s and is famous for its stained-glass windows and statue of the virgin saint.
Views From Parque El Picacho

The Christ of El Picacho is lit up in the nighttime, and you can see it from all the way up the mountains. Created by the Honduran sculptor Mario Zamora, this 32m-high figure is the main attraction of Parque El Picacho, 6km from downtown. The park itself is gated and has long walking trails. It is safe and has its own miniature replica of Paris, France’s Eiffel Tower.
Parque National La Tigra
This park is located in the northeast of Tegucigalpais a moody cloud-covered forest that is very humid and has lots of animals in it along with lush green vegetation. It is truly a beautiful natural place but it is not easy to get to as bus routes are spotty.
