His Highness Prince Aga Khan IV, was an Imam and spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslim community. He was married twice once to a British model named, Sarah Crocker Poole or Begum Princess Salima Aga Khan, then to a German woman named Gabriel of Leningen or Begum Princess Inaara Aga Khan.
It’s interesting here to note that both women were not new to marriage. They had been married and divorced before. This was their second marriage to the charming Prince Aga Khan IV. These marriages, although proved to be fruitful, with Begum Princess Salima Aga Khan bringing up three children, but ultimately they ended in divorce.
When it came time to divorce, Princess Salima and Princess Inaara had a lot of jewelry given from their rich husband, Prince Aga Khan IV. So, to claim back their independence and make him a little bit angry and make lots of money in the process, they chose to sell their jewels. A bitter battle was waged with the court to not sell all of it. In the end, the court kept a few pieces to give back to the Aga Khan family and the rest a huge chunk of it was sold and the money went to charity. Here are the magnificent and beautiful pieces from that fateful auction night.
