Credit card debt reached $1 trillion dollars in 2025. The highest it has ever been. People are drowning in debt that they will never be able to pay back! Families are not living anymore. They are surviving on borrowed time. Below is a list of ten reasons why America is collapsing as we speak.

1. Utility Bills:

One in six families are now behind on utility bills. Electricity and gas bills have doubled in 2025. Water bills are not being paid, so the water shuts off in the house. People are share power with next-door neighbors with power cords. People are burning more wood to keep warm by not using the heater.

Grocery Bills:

Food bank demands are up. The Grocery isle is America’s silent battlefield. Households now spend 10-15% of their income on food alone. One in ten adults don’t eat so that their children can eat. Food and grocery item prices have skyrocketed, but wages are less and people can’t afford them anymore. Packages of food and other essentials are under the “shrinkflation” tactic. The packages became smaller with less inside them while the price of the items are increased every year.  These days, people are spending more like $300-$400 every week on groceries but are barely filling their carts. With packages being smaller than before, food runs out before the end of the week. People are hungry, mean, and desperate.

Rent and Housing Problems:

Rent has become America’s cruelest tax, a fee to just keep living. Medium rents have surged more than 25%. Families are breaking the bank by pilling up debt on credit cards and other loans still can’t afford the mortgage or the rising cost of rent that is always going up year after year. Some can’t afford it anymore and go live in cars. The car is the last bit of protection they have from the street. Others live in tents getting kicked out by police on a regular basis because they are not supposed to be on the side of the road in a tent!

Medical Bills:

Across America, people have to choose between their health and their own lives. Hundreds of rural hospitals have closed down. Until someone who urgently needs to get to the hospital dies on the way there because the hospital itself is too far away. People don’t go to the doctor even if they need to, because drug prices are too expensive and seeing a doctor can swallow all your money. You get people who desperately need surgery never get it. They live in pain, avoiding the hospital. People also cut their drugs in half trying to save on their prescriptions but not realizing that cutting their medication in half doesn’t make them better but only makes them worse. Families are bankrupt from the medical bills.

Wage Illusion:

On paper, they say wages are rising, and everything is great, but in reality real purchasing power is down 3%. It’s an economy that says you’re earning more, but you can’t afford anything anymore! Americans are taking on double or triple jobs, but they can’t fill up their grocery carts, they can’t fill up their gas tanks, they can’t afford their rent or mortgage, and they can’t afford to pay for their basic utilities.

Childcare:

Mothers and fathers cannot afford to keep working because childcare costs are very high. $12,000 for one child to get early childcare and education. $24,000 for two children. America has become a nation where raising children has become unaffordable. Teachers are losing their jobs. More schools are now online or have only four days of school, not five.

Debt Spiral:

The average household credit card debt balances are $6,000. Credit card debt reached $1 trillion dollars in 2025. The highest it has ever been. Households are now thinking about which payment to make and which one to not pay. Debt is killing the middle class.

Eviction Notices:

Fillings of evictions have doubled in cities like Atlanta and Las Vegas. One in five renters are in danger of being evicted at any given time. Families are forced to temporary shelters.

Work More; Have Less:

Americans are working harder than ever but have less. People have to work double or triple jobs to just keep their heads up. There is an illusion of progress in America but people are doing gig work or taking on two or three jobs. They hustle harder but don’t live good lives and can barely afford to live. Gig work is like a treadmill. You’re giving your time, body, and life away to something that gives you so little it’s really laughable to a casual observer. The message of America is clear: work until you die! But don’t ever expect to live a life worth living!

Trust Collapsing:

For decades, Americans thought that the bus would come on time. If something brakes someone would fix it. If you have a medical condition, you could go to a doctor and get help. But now, that faith in the system is broken. This is the moment when America slips from first world country to third world country. Utility bills never get paid, so now you don’t have running water, electricity, or gas. Childcare costs so much that parents don’t go to work and stay at home with their children. Leaving the household with less money than before. Rents are so high that people are living on the streets. Medical bills are so high that people are cutting their prescriptions to “save” and not seeing their doctor, although they are in pain and suffering. A time of so-called “progress” but it’s exactly the opposite; grocery bills so high you spend $300-400 every week just to keep your family from starving! Credit card and loan debt is so high nobody knows what the government is going to do about it when people just don’t pay and banks keep closing one after another! And the dreaded “wage illusion“ when they promised that everything is fine, but people can’t afford to live anywhere because, yes, maybe they raised their income by a little bit, but guess what? They raised the prices of everything else by triple! And every year they are going to raise more! So, you want to do gig work or take on that third job? Do it! And do it until you buckle under pressure and stress and die while being so tired trying to juggle so many different jobs at once. Is it any wonder that some people literally (true story) died in the shower before going to work, dreaming of retirement, but they never reached it! Or some people (true story) died while driving home from work exhausted. Suddenly, sleeping while their hands are on the steering wheel and their big toe is pushing the gas pedal so hard, the impact of the crash kills them instantly. What about all the homeless people, young and old, on the streets of America in any major American city? Literally dying when it’s too hot or too cold outside and always shooting up illegal drugs to dull their pain. What do you call all these events? I call it, “America the beautiful and America the damned!”
